Siew Lyn Wong is a Malaysian freelance writer who has been writing professionally for 30 years. Her work appears in the print, broadcast and electronic media.

Her specialty areas are environmental and travel writing. Her focus is books, including travel guidebooks and conservation publications. She has also worked on documentaries and led online content development.

Most recently, Siew Lyn returned to journalism. She has co-founded Macaranga, an investigative journalism portal covering environmental and sustainable issues on Malaysia. Read about why she is doing this here. Macaranga is also on Twitter and Facebook.

She has been awarded journalism grants to work on stories for Macaranga.

This year, she won a grant from Internews’ Earth Journalism Network for a feature on seahorse conservation. Last year, she was co-grantee of the Pulitzer Centre Rainforest Journalism Grant for a 4-part series on deforestation in Peninsular Malaysia. She also won a grant from Internews’ Earth Journalism Network for three features on the impact of Covid-19 on respectively zoos, indigenous Orang Asli communities and ecotourism in Sabah.

In addition, Siew Lyn appears in a monthly segment on BFM 89.9 Radio, where she and her Macaranga co-founder do a wrap-up of key environmental news. And this year, she is involved in training young journalists for the portal.
