Siew Lyn Wong is a Malaysian freelance writer who has been writing professionally for over 25 years. Her work appears in the print, broadcast and electronic media.

Her specialty areas are environmental and travel writing. Her focus is books, including travel guidebooks and conservation publications. She has also worked on documentaries and led online content development.

Most recently, Siew Lyn has decided to return to journalism. She has co-founded Macaranga, a journalism portal covering environmental and sustainable issues on Malaysia. Read about why she is doing this here. Macaranga is also on Twitter and Facebook.

Meanwhile, her other work includes a feature article on reform in conservation-related institutions, policy and legislation in Malaysia post-GE14. This follows an earlier critical piece on climate change policy and direction.

Last year, Siew Lyn made a short film on marine plastic pollution with Stephanie Theresa, that was shortlisted for best public service announcement at the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival.

She has also developed and run campaigns for NGO MNS Marine (the Marine Special Interest Group of the Malaysian Nature Society Selangor Branch), respectively on shark conservation and marine plastic pollution (for which above short video was done). Last year, she was  on the organising committee of their World Oceans Day event, held for the first time in Kuala Lumpur. She also ran the publicity campaign for it.

Two decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Siew Lyn spent over four years in Berlin and has built an online version of her years there in words and photographs. She continues to be fascinated by the German capital.
